Breeding African Pike Characin in captivity is rare and challenging, as the conditions must be just right. In the wild, this species breeds during the rainy season, and the females scatter their eggs in the vegetation along the shorelines. Successful breeding in captivity often requires a specialized breeding setup, including the use of hormones to stimulate spawning.

The African Pike Characin is generally hardy and not prone to disease if kept in optimal conditions. However, like all fish, it is susceptible to various bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections. Good water quality, a balanced diet, and careful monitoring can help prevent diseases.

The African Pike Characin is native to many parts of Africa, including rivers and lakes in countries such as Nigeria, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It prefers slow-moving, clear water with a neutral pH and moderate water flow.

African Pike Characin is a predatory species and can be aggressive towards smaller fish in the aquarium. It should only be kept with larger, more robust species that can hold their own against this predator. It is not suitable for a community aquarium or tanks with small, delicate fish.

Before introducing African Pike Characin to a new aquarium, it is important to acclimate them slowly to the new water conditions. This can be done by floating the bag containing the fish in the aquarium for 15-20 minutes to allow the temperature to equalize. Over the next hour, small amounts of the aquarium water should be added to the bag until the water in the bag is similar to that in the aquarium. The fish can then be released into the aquarium.
