Top 9 Favorite Acropora Corals to Keep in your Reef Aquarium

Let's start the list with one of the harder-to-get-by corals:

Merlin's Staff Acropora

There are many purple corals in the hobby, but this one is one of the most popular. It has a close branch in the growth pattern with orangey Goldy polyp.

Strawberry  Shortcake Acropora

Also known as the Barley Shortcake, this is a great example of readily available Acropora that's been around for years and won't break the bank but still looks stunning.

The corals, however, do take their sweet time growing. In most tanks, it will also have shaggy polyps too.

EC Optimus Prime Acropora

Acropora space out endlessly if you put them on a flat surface. At its best, this coral will have a vivid purple body with darker purple polyp and the most stunning blue growth tips.

Sunset Mille Acropora

You won't be able to find several frags of these for sale at reasonable prices if you Google it now. It has a true gold base with shaggy green polyps, and because it has been grown in the hobby endlessly for years on end, it is also very hardy for an Acrapora.

Blueberry Wine Acropora

At its best, this Acropora will show bright, almost navy blue branches with a reach-for-the-sky growing pattern.

European Pikachu Acropora

If you are lucky enough to find one for sale, you can expect to pay $100 or more for one fragrance. But that is truly money well spent with the lovely yellow florescent being accompanied by burgundy red polyps.

Pinky the Bear

Pink and green Acropora are not common, but this mix of light pink and green, along with the slightly unusual spiky growth pattern, is a true beauty. Plus, the coral is quite hardy.

Hairy Bear

This coral has various shades of purple and blue with thin golden polyps and a looking growth pattern that sets it apart from the crowd.

Rainbow Loom

When looking its best, this Acropora has a deep green base that blends into lime before going full-on purple at the tip. If you look closely enough, you'll also see hints of yellow and gold too.
