The Real Reason There's So Much Conflicting Info (Prime and Stability)

In this article, we are answering the question: how long do you need to dose prime and stability to get your tank cycled?

The Answer

The reality is there is no answer. It's not seven days, as it says on the bottle. It's not 12 days, 15 days, or 30 days. The answer is you should continue doing your Prime and Stability daily until your tank reaches zero ammonia and zero nitrites and begins accumulation or nitrates.

Understand Your Tank's Unique Needs

The keyword in the answer is your tank. Since your tank is not like any other tank, no one can give you the correct answer. The fish-keeping hobby is not so cut and dry that someone can say that your tank should be cycled every 15th day. It doesn't work day.

Similarly, no one can say that if you have this type of filtration on this tank, you want to water change every ninth day. No matter how much you search for it, you can never get an accurate answer to specific questions in this hobby.

How fast your tank cycles depends on a lot of factors, including:

  • Tank size
  • Species of fish
  • Quantity of fish
  • Size of fish
  • Source water parameters
  • Filtration
  • Temperature
  • and more...

Prime helps you detoxify your tank, and stability will help boost the production of beneficial bacteria to speed up the process. While it has been proven, this method will cycle your tank much faster. It doesn't mean it'll take you the same time to get the result and your favorite creator.
