How to Keep Green Spotted Puffer Fish?

The Green Spotted Fish is incredible. They are interactive and beautiful to look at and fit in the wet pet category.
The Green Spotted Puff originates in Southeastern Asia. They are medium-sized fish, so generally, the adults will be four to six inches in length. However, they're quite stout because they are Puffuer, so they are like extra-large fish.
They'll be two to three inches long when you find them in stores. And expect them to get double that size when they're fully grown.
Tank Size
The Green Spotted Puffer fishes are active fish. They swim back and forth in that aquarium and kind of round and hunting, which we'll cover here. So, you do want to keep them in a relatively spacious aquarium.
Generally, a 30-gallon aquarium is a good start; the bigger, the better as they grow old.
Brackish Water Fish
In the wild, these fish live in rivers near the ocean. That's because the adults are brackish water. So, keeping a Green Spotted Pufferfish will require salty water because they require that mineral content found in that reef environment.
Setting up a brackish aquarium is not difficult. So, make sure you can provide it, and learn how to put a Brackish aquarium together.
The store will probably keep these fish in freshwater when you buy them. So, chances are that they go from brackish water to fresh water. And they do live in freshwater, but they thrive. Therefore you want to reach the limit of your Green Spot Pufferfish back to salty water.
Water Parameter
As for water, you want to have it somewhere between 1.004 on a specific gravity range up to a fully marine environment of 1.022. So, brackish water fluctuates all the time. So, you don't have to be exact, but make sure that you are making a brackish tank and that it's somewhere in that range.
They are tropical fish. So, you will need a heater anywhere between 76-82F (24-28C). And a pH level somewhere between 7.5 and about 8.2 to 8.5, they can survive in all these ranges.
However, it is important to have good water quality in brackish water. So, if you're lazy with maintenance, this might not be the fish for you.
To keep this fish, you want to ensure that it has a clean environment and that you're testing for excess nitrate, etc.
Substrate
As for substrate, you can use any substrate or do a bare bottom aquarium. Depending on where you live and your water parameters. However, we recommend using crushed coral or Dragonite sand, as it has the buffering qualities and keeps the water parameters right where they should be.
Plants in the Aquarium
There are a lot of plants for brackish water. People did have success with Java Fern and Mangrove. There might also be some other brackish plants in your area that you have access to that might work.
But, do know that you will have to keep up with your water changes and won't be able to rely on plants doing a lot of that natural filtration for you.
Diet
Feeding your Green Spotted Puffer requires a more thoughtful process and work for the owners. With the Puffer because they do have some specific dietary requirements.
These are a Carnivore or a Piscivore. It needs to eat meaty food. So, you can feed them fresh, frozen, or freeze-dried.
They are not going to take pellet or flake food. So, you will need to be able to keep the frozen, fresh, and free-dried foods. The good choices include shrimp, snails, shrimps, crabs, mealworms, and fixed versions.
Puffers have a beach, and those beaks must be continually worn down. So, ensure that a couple of times per week, when you are feeding your Puffer, they are getting some hard food.
Tankmates
Like a lot of puffers, the green Spotted Puffers are aggressive. They are very feisty and can be pretty aggressive towards other fish. So, make sure you choose large enough fish not to be bothered by the Green Spotted Puffer Fish.
So, large Mollies, Night Gobies, or any more significant, healthier brackish fish will be okay.
You will need a giant aquarium if you want to keep multiple Puffer. Plus, you will also need a lot of decore in that tank to have a hiding place so that both the puffers can't see the Puffer at the other end of the tank. And, even after all this hassle, there is no guarantee that they will live together well.
Behavior
The Green Spotted Puffers are very intelligent, and you will see them be very interested. They will constantly look around, analyzing things with their big googly eyes. They'll also know who is the owner and who is not. Therefore, they are great wet pets.
