Care Guide for Nerite Snails

Snails, in general, like higher pH and calcium. They leave white seeds when they reproduce so they won't hatch in fresh water. But keeping them alive and thriving, that's what we'll try to do here:

Diet and Shell Health

It's recommended to feed your snails calcium blocks because when they eat them, they are getting calcium to build their shells. When it dissolves in water, it's also making sure the shell doesn't dissolve. Also, if you don't have enough calcium in the water or diet, they'll start eating each other's shells.

Narite snails, most of the time, form brackish waters. So that means there's going to be more minerals and higher pH in that water environment.

Scavengers

Nerite snails are scavengers. They roam around the tank eating algae, decaying leaves, and whatever they can find and extract it.

These snails thrive with livebearers, African Cichlids, and co-habitat. To know that you have enough calcium in your tank is to look at their shells.

Nerite Snails Predators

Bettas or any fish that likes to chase down worms will come up and grab the snail's feelers which makes the fall. Also, you should keep them in glass lids because if your water line is high and doesn't have a top, they'll crawl out.

As for the white eggs, they don't hatch. You can scrape them off or let other things in the tank at them. However, make sure t keep the pH always above 7, if not 7.5.

One great tip is - to take a picture when you get them, and if you ever have a question down the road, you can go back to that picture and have a look.
