All About the Galaxea Coral

In this article, we will be discussing the Galaxea coral. They are some of the most beautifully colored coral with wild movement. In a nutshell, they are eye-catching corals to have in your tank.

It is also a very hardy coral. So, if you are a beginner and looking for a new addition, this might be a good one for you to try.

Prices: You can get one frag for about $40, and the prices go up with the bigger size.

Care Level: Moderate.

Origin: Most of them come aquaculture these days that you can buy online or get from stores. But originally, they were from Fiji, Indonesia, and the great barrier reef.

Tank Size: As long as this coral has plenty of room to spread and nice lighting to complement its color and provide it with food, the size of the tank does not matter.

With these corals, make sure your calcium adn magnesium are very high, and the levels are stable.

Appearance

Colors: They come in a wide variety of colors. You will mostly see greens and blues, whereas the rare ones can also be found in neon-green, purple, and yellow color. 

Diet

These corals are photosynthetic, but they love feeding on liquid food or even tiny shrimps. Providing them with other food helps them grow, stay strong, and be vibrantly colorful. But, they are photosynthetic, so that they will be getting most of the nutrition from the light.

Venomous

They are venomous and have a powerful sting from those sweeper tentacles. These sweeper tentacles can be very long that might end up on other corals on your reef.

So, you want to make sure that you put them in a spot in your tank that these sweeper tentacles can spread out nicely because whenever they start feeding, these tentacles get long. 

Placement

You can put a Galaxea coral anywhere. They do well in all sports in the tank. Usually, reefers like to add them at the bottom, on the sand bed, because corals at the bottom often have plenty of room around them, and they can keep growing without any problem.

Current

It is recommended to keep them in a medium to high. A lot of current on them helps them feed very well. It also helps the algae not grow in between their heads.

Lighting

It is better to keep this coral in medium lighting. A par level of 50-150 will keep them happy.

Fragging

These corals can be Fragged. They do have a number of heads along with them. Therefore, fragging them is easy until they have enough heads to continue feeding.
