White Leg Hermit Crab

General information

White-legged hermit crabs are active dwellers of the aquarium. They help maintain the aquariums clean by preventing waste build up. These species acquire a peaceful temperament. They are reef safe and do not pose any threat to their neighbors. 

Water temperature should be maintained between 72 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. The proper pH should be between 8.1 and 12, and the water’s specific gravity should be between 1.023 and 1.025. The required tank size should contain a minimum of 25 gallons of water and should have enough algae material in the aquarium.

These species basically live on a herbivorous diet, which solely feeds on algae.

These type of species can be found in the oceans of Western Atlantic.

Like most invertebrates, the White-Legged Hermit Carb does not do well if there are large swings in water parameters. They also do not tolerate any types of metal traces in the water, there for you should never be in contact with any copper medications.

Most invertebrates don't like large swings in water parameters and the White-Legged Hermit Carb is not an exception, so even though most hobbyists do not acclimate their cleaner crews it is suggested to do so. If you have a sump, float your cleaner crew in an area with low light to allow them to temperature acclimate first which should take about 15-20 min. Then it is best to slowly drip acclimate them to allow them to adjust to your water conditions.
