About Bobbit worms

General information

The Bobbit worm is an ambush predator that buries its long body into sand or gravel, waiting for an opportunity to strike once one of its five antennae-like structures extended from its head feels a prey above them. These five prominent beaded and banded structures contain light and chemical receptors that, when triggered, will cause the Bobbit worm to lunge at its prey, latching on to them and quickly pulling them under the substrate. Even large species in your aquarium are not safe, and the Bobbit will also inject toxins into its prey to allow him time to eat them.
You can quickly identify a Bobbit worm by its large springlike jaws, which act like a pair of serrated scissors. It can use them to slice its prey in half.
