About Yellow Flanked Fairy Wrasse

General information

The Yellow-Flanked Fairy Wrasse is multicolored with a greenish-blue head and a large yellow triangular patch on its sides. Depending on where the fish is collected, the yellow triangular patch may actually be pinker in color. The male and female of this species are very similarly colored, but when courting, the male will display increased color intensity. Colors may vary depending on the fish's mood. The Yellow-Flanked Fairy Wrasse is a very peaceful, active fish that will bring both color and activity to a fish-only or reef aquariums. They will not bother any corals or invertebrates making them a perfect fish for the reef aquarium. These wrasses like to jump, so a tight fitting canopy is recommended.

Cautions

Wrasse are considered jumpers make sure your aquarium has a tight-fitting canopy or screen cover to prevent the Wrasse from jumping out of your aquarium. Wrasse have been known to jump through the smallest of holes in a canopy.

Wrasses prefer to have a 2″ (5cm) sandbed to allow them to burrow into the sand to sleep or when they feel like they are in danger. Some people with bare bottom tanks have also added a Tupperware with a 2″ deep sand bed to accommodate the wrasse’s needs.

They are generally peaceful but may display aggression towards members of the same species.
