About Pinecone Fish

General information

The Pinecone Fish is covered with spines and a yellow body. It has what appears to be a glowing smile due to the bioluminescent bacteria which inhabit the light organs found on the sides of the mouth. These symbiotic bacteria are responsible for its glow which is usually green, but occasionally red in older Pinecone Fish. The Pinecone Fish should have abundant caves for retreating from light and peaceful tank mates. Pinecone fish should never be treated with any type of copper sulfate they are extremely sensitive to copper. When first introduced into the aquarium, live saltwater feeder shrimp should be used to entice this fish to eat. The Pinecone fish diet consists of live foods like shrimp and small fish.
