About Celestial Pearl Danio

General information

The Celestial Pearl Danio is a small freshwater fish that typically reaches an average size of 0.75 inches (2 cm) in length. They are peaceful and can be kept in groups of 5 or more in a minimum tank size of 10 gallons. They are native to Myanmar, specifically in the shallow streams and pools in the vicinity of Hopong and Hwe Lon.

Diet & nutrition

In the wild, Celestial Pearl Danios feed on small aquatic invertebrates and insect larvae. In captivity, they will eat a variety of prepared and live foods including high-quality flakes, frozen or freeze-dried daphnia and bloodworms, and small live foods like brine shrimp.

Determining sex

Males and females are similar in appearance, but males are typically more colorful and have brighter red fins. During breeding, females will become plumper and more rounded.

Breeding & spawning

To breed Celestial Pearl Danios, provide a separate breeding tank with dense vegetation, a gentle filter, and a pH around 6.5-7.0. The water temperature should be between 75-80°F (24-27°C). The females will lay adhesive eggs on plants or other surfaces, and the males will fertilize them. After spawning, remove the parents and provide a diet of infusoria or newly hatched brine shrimp for the fry.

Diseases

Celestial Pearl Danios are generally hardy fish and are not prone to any specific diseases. However, like all fish, they can be susceptible to common aquarium diseases such as ich, bacterial infections, and fungal infections.

Origination

The Celestial Pearl Danio is native to Myanmar, specifically in the shallow streams and pools in the vicinity of Hopong and Hwe Lon.

Cautions

It is important to maintain good water quality and perform regular water changes to prevent diseases and ensure the health of your fish. Avoid keeping Celestial Pearl Danios with larger, aggressive fish that may harm or eat them.

Acclimation process

When introducing Celestial Pearl Danios to a new aquarium, it is important to acclimate them slowly. Float the bag containing the fish in the aquarium for about 15-20 minutes to equalize the temperature. Then, slowly add small amounts of aquarium water to the bag over a period of at least 30 minutes. This will allow the fish to adjust to the new water conditions and prevent shock.
