Male Auratus Cichlids are generally larger and more brightly colored than females. They have longer fins and more intense coloration, particularly on their face and dorsal fin. Females tend to be smaller and less colorful than males.

Breeding Auratus Cichlids can be challenging, as they are not maternal mouthbrooders like many other African cichlid species. Instead, they are egg-layers and require a suitable breeding environment to spawn successfully. It's important to provide a clean breeding tank with plenty of hiding places and suitable water conditions. The females will lay between 10-50 eggs, which will hatch in about 3-5 days. After hatching, the fry can be fed crushed flakes or powdered fry food.

Auratus Cichlids are generally hardy and disease-resistant, but they can still be susceptible to common freshwater fish diseases such as ich and fin rot. To prevent disease, it's important to maintain good water quality, avoid overfeeding, and quarantine new fish before adding them to an established aquarium.

Adding some rock or other hiding places to the tank will also help them feel more comfortable in their new environment.
