About Albino Buenos Aires Tetra

General information

The Albino Buenos Aires Tetra is a popular freshwater fish that originates from South America. They are schooling fish that are active and fast-swimming. They have a silver body with a bright red tail fin and distinctive red eyes, which are the result of a lack of pigment. They can grow up to 4 inches in length and require a large aquarium of at least 30 gallons to accommodate their active nature and schooling behavior. They prefer a temperature range of 72-82°F and a pH range of 6.0-7.5.

Diet & nutrition

Albino Buenos Aires Tetras are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods including flake, pellet, and frozen foods. They also enjoy live and frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, and other small aquatic insects. Providing a balanced diet with a mix of protein and plant-based foods will help keep them healthy and vibrant.

Determining sex

Male Albino Buenos Aires Tetras are generally slimmer and more colorful than females. Males also have more elongated dorsal and anal fins, while females have a more rounded body shape.

Breeding & spawning

Albino Buenos Aires Tetras are egg scatterers and require a breeding tank with plenty of plants or a spawning mop. They can be bred in pairs or in groups, and the water should be slightly acidic with a temperature between 75-80°F. After spawning, the adults should be removed as they will eat the eggs and fry. The fry can be fed small live foods such as infusoria and baby brine shrimp.

Diseases

Albino Buenos Aires Tetras are generally hardy and disease-resistant when kept in a clean and well-maintained aquarium. However, they can be susceptible to common freshwater diseases such as ich, fin rot, and velvet. Keeping up with regular water changes and maintaining good water quality will help prevent these diseases.

Origination

Albino Buenos Aires Tetras are native to South America, specifically Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Cautions

Albino Buenos Aires Tetras can be fin nippers, especially if they are kept in small schools or in overcrowded conditions. They should be kept in a school of at least 6 individuals and provided with plenty of swimming space to help reduce aggression.

Acclimation process

When introducing Albino Buenos Aires Tetras to a new aquarium, it is important to acclimate them slowly to prevent shock. The drip acclimation method is recommended, which involves slowly dripping water from the aquarium into the bag of fish over the course of an hour or more, until the water parameters in the bag match those in the aquarium.
