About African Butterflyfish

General information

The African Butterflyfish can grow to 5 inches (12 cm) in length, you will want at least 4 inches of space between the top of the water and the cover of the tank. The African Butterflyfish can be kept in groups or by themself, they are using living in slow-moving streams. They like to hang out on the surface of the water where they are likely to find insects.

Diet & nutrition

They naturally eat bugs and insects in the wild. They will also eat small fish, house crickets, fleas, black mosquito larvae. They will normally reject or will be reluctant to eat dried or flake food.

Determining sex

Males have a concave anal fin.

Origination

Slow running streams in West and Central African rainforest and swamps.
