About Filigree Bloodfin Tetra

General information

The Filigree Bloodfin Tetra is a small freshwater fish species that can grow up to 3 inches (7.5 cm) in length. They have a slender body and a silvery color with a red stripe running along their body. They are native to the Amazon basin in South America and prefer soft, acidic water with plenty of plants and hiding spots in their environment. They are peaceful and can be kept in a community tank with other peaceful fish species.

Diet & nutrition

The Filigree Bloodfin Tetra is an omnivore and will eat a variety of foods in captivity. They can be fed a diet of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. It's important to provide a varied diet to ensure proper nutrition and health.

Determining sex

The males are usually smaller and more colorful than the females. During breeding, the males may develop a more intense red coloration and their fins may become more elongated.

Breeding & spawning

Breeding the Filigree Bloodfin Tetra is possible in a separate breeding tank. The water in the breeding tank should be soft and slightly acidic. Provide the fish with plenty of plants and hiding spots to create a comfortable environment for spawning. The female will scatter eggs among the plants and the male will fertilize them. After spawning, remove the adult fish from the breeding tank to prevent them from eating the eggs. The eggs will hatch within a few days and the fry can be fed with infusoria or newly hatched brine shrimp.

Diseases

The Filigree Bloodfin Tetra is a hardy species and not prone to many diseases. However, they can be susceptible to common freshwater diseases such as fin rot, ich, and velvet. Maintaining good water quality and providing a varied diet can help prevent disease outbreaks.

Origination

The Filigree Bloodfin Tetra is native to the Amazon basin in South America.

Cautions

The Filigree Bloodfin Tetra is a peaceful species and should not be kept with aggressive fish that may harm or stress them.

Acclimation process

When introducing the Filigree Bloodfin Tetra to a new aquarium, it's important to acclimate them slowly to prevent shock or stress. Float the bag containing the fish in the aquarium water for about 15-20 minutes to allow the temperature to equalize. Then, add small amounts of water from the aquarium to the bag every 5-10 minutes for about an hour. Finally, use a net to transfer the fish to the aquarium.
