Painted Swordtail

The Painted Swordtail is a popular and colorful species of livebearing fish that is native to Mexico and Central America. Males can grow up to 13 cm in length, while females can reach up to 15 cm. They have a lifespan of about 3-5 years and are fairly easy to care for in a home aquarium.

Females will give birth to 20-30 fry at a time, which should be separated from the adults and fed a diet of crushed flakes and small live foods.

The Painted Swordtail is generally hardy and not prone to many diseases if kept in clean water with good filtration. However, they can be susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections if water quality is poor or if they are stressed.
