Zebra acara

The Zebra acara is a small, peaceful cichlid species that can reach a maximum size of around 3 inches (7.6 cm) in length. They are native to South America, specifically the Amazon River basin, and are found in slow-moving rivers and streams. In an aquarium, they prefer a well-planted tank with plenty of hiding spots and moderate to low lighting. They are a hardy species and can adapt to a wide range of water parameters, although they prefer slightly acidic water with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.

In the wild, the Zebra acara feeds on small invertebrates and insects. In an aquarium, they will readily accept a variety of foods including flake, pellet, and frozen foods. It is recommended to supplement their diet with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia.

Male Zebra acaras are generally larger and more colorful than females. Males will also have pointed dorsal and anal fins, while females will have more rounded fins.

The Zebra acara is a relatively easy species to breed in an aquarium. They are monogamous and form pairs, with the female laying eggs on a flat surface such as a leaf or rock. The male will then fertilize the eggs and guard the nest until the fry hatch. The fry can be fed on baby brine shrimp and powdered flake food.

The Zebra acara is generally a hardy species and not prone to many diseases. However, they can be susceptible to parasitic infections and bacterial infections if water quality is not maintained.

After an hour, the fish can be gently netted and released into the aquarium.
