Moscow Green Guppy

The Moscow Green Guppy is a selectively bred strain of the Poecilia reticulata species, commonly known as the guppy. These fish are popular for their bright green coloration and long flowing fins. They are relatively small, with adult males typically reaching a maximum length of around 1.5-2 inches (4-5 cm), and females slightly larger at 2-2.5 inches (5-6 cm). These fish are peaceful and easy to care for, making them an excellent choice for beginner aquarists.

Moscow Green Guppies are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. They should be fed a high-quality flake or pellet food as a staple, supplemented with occasional treats such as frozen or live foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms. It's important to feed them small amounts multiple times a day, rather than a large amount once a day, to prevent overfeeding and water quality issues.

Males have longer, more colorful fins than females and are generally smaller in size. They also have a gonopodium, which is a modified anal fin used for mating. Females have a rounder abdomen, and their fins are shorter and less colorful.

Moscow Green Guppies are livebearers, meaning that they give birth to live fry rather than laying eggs. Breeding is relatively easy and can happen quickly. It's important to have plenty of hiding places for the fry to avoid predation from adult fish. Pregnant females should be removed from the tank and placed in a separate breeding tank to prevent the adults from eating the fry.

Moscow Green Guppies are generally hardy and disease-resistant, but they can still be susceptible to common aquarium diseases such as ich or fin rot. Keeping the aquarium clean and maintaining good water quality can help prevent these issues.

Guppies are native to South America, but due to their popularity in the aquarium trade, they have been introduced to many different parts of the world.

Moscow Green Guppies are generally peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful community fish. However, they may nip at the fins of long-finned fish, such as angelfish or bettas. It's also important to avoid overcrowding the aquarium to prevent stress and disease.

When introducing new Moscow Green Guppies to the aquarium, it's important to acclimate them slowly to avoid shock. Float the bag containing the fish in the aquarium for 15-20 minutes to allow the temperature in the bag to adjust to the aquarium temperature. Then, gradually add small amounts of aquarium water to the bag every 5-10 minutes until the bag is full. Finally, use a net to gently transfer the fish to the aquarium.
