Chipokee Cichlid

The Chipokae Cichlid, also known as the Golden Mbuna or Melanochromis chipokae, is a small freshwater fish species that is native to Lake Malawi in Africa. This species is a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts due to its vibrant coloration and relatively easy care. The Chipokae Cichlid has a distinctive golden-yellow body with black stripes and spots. The males of the species typically have brighter coloration and larger finnage than females, making them more visually striking.

In the wild, the Chipokae Cichlid is an omnivorous species that feeds on a variety of small crustaceans, insects, and algae. In captivity, they can be fed a diet of high-quality pellet or flake food supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms.

Chipokae Cichlids are known to be moderately difficult to breed in captivity. Males will display aggressive territorial behavior during breeding, so it's important to provide ample hiding places for females to avoid harassment.

The Chipokee Cichlid is found in the Cichlidae endemic to Lake Malawi where it is only known to occur at Chipoka. It lives in habitats characterized by patches of sand amongst the rock.

When introducing a new Chipokae Cichlid to an aquarium, it's important to acclimate them slowly to the new water conditions. This can be done by gradually adding small amounts of the aquarium water to the bag or container that the fish came in over a period of several hours.
