Not Using CO2
When you first stater, you might not have any idea of how important CO2 is to aquarium plants. Beginners usually think that if they have a little liquid fertilizer, they will do just fine. Though it is true, if you are not using CO2, your plants might survive. But if you want a dense aquascape with super colorful plants, you will have to use CO2 in our aquarium water.
Once you start using CO2, your game will improve exponentially, and plants will look a lot healthier. They are cost-efficient but a value-adding addition to your planted tank.
Not Enough Plants
Before making an aquascape, you usually look at the plants you want to buy and buy just one pot for every plant. This is a mistake because when you have a new aquascape in the beginning, your setup is prone to algae breakout.
You will have tons of nutrients coming out of your soil, and your water hasn't stabilized yet. So, in the beginning, by using a larger number of plants, algae would not get the chance to grow.
Aqua Soil
In the first few escapes, hobbyists tend to use decorative sands or gravels. It looks good, but it will not be a good fit for your plants. But using aqua soil skyrockets your plant growth. Therefore, we recommend every aquascape use aqua soil for their aquascape tank bed.
Algae Clean-up crew
If you do not have an algae clean-up crew, you will have to spend lots of time scrubbing algae off the plant yourself. Though maintenance is part of the hobby, it is always better to have little help. Ammino snails and a few algae-eating plants will make your life much easier and will give you a lot more time to enjoy your aquariums.
Fast-growing Plants
Your aquarium is a constant battleground for plants and algae. And if you fill your plants with low-growing plants, the algae might always conquer the battle. So, as a beginner, try to fill your tank with fast-growing plants; they will be the worst enemy of algae. They grow a lot faster, so they take up a lot of the nutrients. Therefore the algae would not stand a chance.
