Phoenix Rasboars are great tank inhabitants. They stay small; you will be lucky if they max out at three-quarters of an inch. Females will be a bit rounder and show slightly less color. But usually, they both offer great colors.
They are very peaceful, so it's a great fish to add to a community tank. These fish are perfect for a 5-gallon tank.
The Phoniex Rasboars can live anywhere from 3 to 5 years. They are very hardy fish. These fishes thrive in large groups. Even in a 5-gallon tank, keep at least 10-12 Phoniex Rasboars, and it will not look over-stocked.
These fishes can be kept with other Rasboras. They also go well with shrimps.
Water parameters
They do accept a wide range of water parameters, even temperatures. Anywhere from low 70s to 80s work. They also thrive in a pH of about 5-8 is excellent.
It's essential to make sure that your aquarium is cycled. There must be no ammonia and nitrite.
Feed them North-fin flakes. Crush up the flake food. They also go crazy for live baby brine shrimp. It contributes to their overall color.
Tank Setup
These fishes don't interact with the substrate, so they use other tankmates to keep the substrate. However, dark substrates give these fishes a little more comfort—the same thing with the background. Live plants also provide them with some cover, making them feel safer.
These fishes don't like bright light. A darker aquarium is going to bring them out.
Breeding
Breeding these fishes is pretty straightforward. However, they often end up eating eggs and fries. So, it's best to remove the adults after they spawn and let the fry grow.
It's not the easiest fish to breed. But sometimes fries can survive in the community setting also. Provided there is a lot of cover. But this is a great fish.
