Dolabella Sea Hare: all you need to know

Dolabella Sea Hare

The Sea Hare is a very cool creature for your tank, this article focuses especially on Dolabella Sea Hare.

PRICES: you normally spend about $30 on them.

TANK SIZE: It really doesn't matter, it is okay with all sizes of the tank.

CARE LEVEL: There is a misconception that these creatures are only for experts, but in reality, they are pretty easy to take care of. So, the care level would be moderate.

TEMPERAMENT: They are very peaceful.

REEF COMPATIBILITY: Yes, they will not mess with any corals. The worst they would do is walk past them and them and maybe knock them over, but other than that you don't have to worry about it going and eating on them. None of that is going to happen.

TEMPERATURE: You want to keep it between 72-78.

dKH: 8-12

pH: 8.1-8.4

SALINITY: 1.23-1.25, make sure that salinity is nice and tight, you don't want to fluctuate it a lot. You have to give it a really nice acclamation and you need to take it slow because too high of a jump can really hurt it.

MAXIMUM SIZE: Bubling up in your tank, you will see them get up to 6-inches, it is the biggest they will get. But you can see some of them in the wild can get up to a foot long, they can be huge.

COLORS: You will get really nice brown-black-greens-whites all mixed together.

DIET: They are a herbivore. They are one fo the best hair algae eater you can get overall.

ORIGIN: They do come from the Philippines.

COMPATIBILITY: If you want it on base on all the cleanup crew you have, it can pretty much go with everybody. Other fishes don't mess with it neither did it messes with anybody.

MAKE SURE THEY GET THE ALAGE

They are the major hair algae eater, if you have a big problem with that, they can get in the tank and can clean it up within a week. The only problem with them is once they run out of hair algae, if they are not fed algae then they will cause them to starve and they won't last much longer after that.

Sometimes you have to take it from one clean tank to one tank with hair algae for them to survive. You cannot feed microalgae or if you feed your tangs a lot of algae they'll also eat that. so, if you want to keep them after the hair algae is all gone just make sure you are giving it plenty of other algae to go after.

PRISTINE WATER

Make sure you do have pristine water, they need the water very clean. It is seen that whenever people high nitrates they get hurt. Do not use any copper-based medication, it will hurt them too. You also want to make sure that you have plenty of live rocks and a good amount of sand bed for them to go around.

Normally you will see them either up in the cave eating a bunch of algae or they will be up in your sand bed eating algae on top of that.

DEFENCE MECHANISM

Know that as a defense mechanism they will spit out toxic dye that can repel whoever has bothered them like fish picking at them. So, you need to have plenty of filtration in order to filter that out.
