Melanurus Wrasse Overview
The Melanurus Wrasse also called the (Hoeven's Wrasse, Wardley Wrasse, Tail-Spot Wrasse, Yellowlined Wrasse, Orangetipped Rainbowfish, Tailspot Wrasse, and Pinstriped Wrasse). The adult, male Melanurus wrasse it typically wrasse shaped (torpedo-shaped) and has an amazing blend of turquoise blue and green colors on the main part of its body along with red, horizontal maze-like stripes from head to tail. Like most wrasse, the Melanurus Wrasse is an excellent hunter and will go after bristle worms throughout your tank. So if you have a bristle worm issue the Melanurus Wrasse could be a good choice. They are considered cautious when adding them to a reef tank mostly because they sometimes have a tendency to go after invertebrates like shrimp, crabs, and even feather dusters. So, if you have any invertebrates that you love wrasses, in general, could be an issue for you.
Like most wrasse, the Melanurus Wrasse is a carnivore so make sure that you are feeding them high protein foods like mices shrimp, brine shrimp, as well as high-quality marine food.

The appearance of the Melanurus Wrasse is quite amazing you'll see blues, greens, reds, and yellows stripes all over. They also get more colorful as they get older.

Tank Requirments for Melanurus Wrasse
You will need at least a 50-gallon tank or larger. They are fairly easy to care for fish with a peaceful temperament, marking him easy to keep with other fish. As far as keeping them in a reef tank you should be cautious. Like many Wrasse, the Melanurus Wrasse tank needs a lid to prevent the Wrasse from jumping out of the tank. They also prefer a sand substrate and ideally a deep sandbed. When the Melanurus Wrasse is ready to go to bed for the night they will dive into the sand and sleep in the sandbed. They will also dive into the sand if they feel threatened which is a better alternative to jumping out of the tank.
They can grow to a max size of about 4 inches. They can actually get fat instead of growing in length.
Ideal Water Parameters
The temperature should be kept at 72-78 degrees. Keep dKh between 8-12 and the between pH 8.1-8.4. Salinity should be kept between 1.0020-1.0025.
