Aiptasia is a pest that will grow in your tank now and then. There are a few ways you can get them off your tank. Let us discuss the most effective ways of getting rid of Aiptasia, and they are also known as the glass Anemone or Tube Anemone.
Aiptasia
They are hitchhikers that will grow on your live rocks and corals. They can pop-out at any time in your tank; they may grow while you are just starting with your first marine tank or when you get corals later. There will always be a chance of getting Aptasia in the aquarium.
Aphasia is a soft coral, and it can reproduce at an exponential rate; therefore, it is essential to keep its growth under control; otherwise, it may overtake your tank. In just a month, they can grow from one to 15.
Why should you kill them?
A few people like how they look in their tank, but if you keep them, they will start stinging your corals if their tentacles touch them. Not a lot of corals can defend themselves from Aiptasia. Eventually, they will kill your corals.
Ways to kill Aiptasia
Medication
So, the best way to kill Aiptaisa with the medication available for them in the market. It can kill them, but they will keep coming back; you can never get rid of the form of your tank. No matter how hard you try, the will always be one was ending up somewhere in the corner. It would help if you took them under control.
Chemicals are going to come with a bottle, a needle, and a syringe. You need to suck the liquid from the bottle and squirt a pretty good amount of it on the mouth of an anemone. Spray enough to make sure that they eat enough of it, which will eventually kill them.
Do not stab them with needles because if you do that, they will release their eggs all over the tank, and it will start going everywhere.
Before you start meditating, make sure to switch off any flow in the tank because it will get hard when you try to squirt of its head and then shoot out everywhere. So, make sure to turn everything off, leave the lights on so you can see better, and vacuum clean the chemicals from the spots you sprayed.
Peppermint shrimp
You can also get fish or crustaceans to take care of. Peppermint shrimps are among the best invertebrates to battle these corals because Aiptaisia is part of their diet in the wild. Maks sure you get them in a group of 2-3 but do not get a lot of them because when your tan gets out of them, they are just going to die.
Copperband Butterfly Fish
One of the best fish to kill Aiptaisa are Copperband Butterfly Fish. They do a great job in just getting these corals out in their holes. You will notice if you try to touch them, they will shrink in hard in the little hole that you will be unable to reach them. But Copperband Butterfly Fish can snout in and take them out.
Word to the wise
If you let the Aiptasia grow for long enough, they will start growing in little spots together in small groups. So, make sure you get them under control before they form a colony.
