Actinia Striata

General information

The Actinia Striata is a solitary anemone that has cylindrical colums that could grow up to a height and diameter of 3 centimeters, while its foot could reach up to a diameter of 6 centimeters. Its crown consists of 196 tentacles all-in-all. Its columns are smooth and striated, with reddish, dull green/brown with dark streaks. The tentacles can be reddish or greenish, adn the disc is plain red and transparent. This species could fully retract its tentacles, resembling a gelatinous mound ontaining stripes all over.

This species is carnivorous, and they feed on zooplanktons which they catch using their tentacles.

The sexes are separate.

These species are viviparous, which means they bring live young that they have developed inside their bodies. Breeding takes place during the summer season.

These species are endemic to the Mediterranean seas.

Most invertebrates do not like large swings in water parameters and the Blue-Legged Hermit Crab is not an exception, so even though most hobbyists do not acclimate their cleaner crews it is suggested to do so. If you have a sump, float your cleaner crew in an area with low light to allow them to temperature acclimate first which should take about 15-20 min. Then it is best to slowly drip acclimate them to allow them to adjust to your water conditions.
