They are a popular aquarium fish due to their striking colors and ease of care. They prefer a heavily planted aquarium with soft, slightly acidic water.

In the wild, Three Stripe Dwarf Cichlids feed on small invertebrates and aquatic insects. In captivity, they can be fed a diet of high-quality pellets, flakes, frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia.
