Crossback Arowana

General information

The Crossback Arowana has a long, slender body and is known for its distinctive coloration. The scales on its back are typically a deep red, while the scales on its sides are a shimmering silver. As the fish matures, its back coloration may gradually darken to deep burgundy or even black, while the silver scales become more pronounced. 
The Crossback Arowana is a solitary and territorial species. It is known for its strong jumping ability, which allows it to catch prey and escape predators. In the wild, a migratory species move upstream during the rainy season to breed. 
Due to their large size and active nature, Crossback Arowanas require a spacious aquarium with plenty of swimming room. They are also sensitive to water quality, so a robust filtration system is necessary to maintain good water conditions. They require a meaty diet, and may be trained to accept frozen or live foods. Because they are a highly prized species, captive-bred individuals can be expensive to acquire. 
It is important to ensure that the Crossback Arowana being purchased is legally and ethically sourced, as this species is protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
