About Red Dottyback

General information

The Red Dottyback fish is found throughout the Indo-Malayan Archipelago, from southern Japan, south to the Northwest Shelf of Australia, and east to New Ireland, Papua New Guinea. They are also commonly known as Red Grouper, Dampiera Dottyback, and Fire-tail Devil. The Red Dottyback is a member of the Pseudochromidae family. Attractive in its appearance, this species grows up to 8.5 inches in size. This species is usually considered to be reef safe but must be kept with precautions. The Red Dottyback fish needs a tank with plenty of hiding places such as crevices or caves to take refuge or hide when stressed or frightened. The Red Dottyback fish is aggressive in temperament and moderately hardy in stamina. The Red Dottyback fish mix up well with other types of fish as long as they are not disturbed by the other fishes.
