About Siamese Algae Eater

General information

These fish are long, slender and either brown or gold, they have a wide, dark stripe from the head to the edge of the tail fin. They are usually 6 inches. To keep these fish in captivity, water pH should be between 6.0 and 7.5 and water temperature should range from 75ºF to 79ºF. The tank should have a gravel substrate, rocks and plants. These fish can be kept in a community aquarium, however, tankmates similar to them should be avoided. They should be kept in groups of at least 6, if kept in smaller groups, the less dominant individual may be constantly harassed by the others.

Diet & nutrition

These species is herbivorous. It can be fed with flakes or pellets and should be fed with lots of vegetable matter like shelled peas, blanches courgette, blanched spinach or chopped fruit. High protein foods should be avoided since these fish aren’t able to metabolize it well.

Determining sex

Mature females are rounder and wider than males.

Origination

This species can be found in Thailand and the Malay Peninsula.
