General information

The body is light brown to gold with the scales outlined in brown or gray. The Thomasi Plecos has a distinguished look almost as if the fish is heavily-armored. They make an excellent addition to any community aquarium, and you can keep several of the same species in an aquarium. They will thrive in planted aquariums with fast-growing plants, high aeration, and water movement. Their natural habitat has rocks and driftwood which provide hiding spots, which is also recommended in an aquarium to reduce stress. The Thomasi Plecostomus can reach a length of 6″ long their for they should be kept in an aquarium 50 gallons or larger.

The Thomasi Plecostomus are omnivores scavengers and are not a picky eater. They actively feed off the bottom of the aquarium, they get most of their nutrition from leftover food, decaying plants, and algae. If there is no algae or left over food present, supplement with high-quality flake food, sinking carnivore pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, and tubifex.

The Thomasi Plecostomus has not been bred in an aquarium, and little is known about their breeding habits.

The Thomasi Plecostomus comes from the fast-moving rivers and streams of South America containing precious plant vegetation and oxygenated water. They need high levels of dissolved oxygen although fast water flow is not required for them to do well in an aquarium.
