About Silver Hatchet

General information

These fish are silver and  have a hatchet shaped body, they are usually 2.5 inches. To keep these fish in captivity, water temperature should range from 74ºF to 81ºF and water pH should be between 6.0 and 7.0. The tank should have floating plants, rooted plants and a sand substrate. The tank should also have a cover to prevent them from jumping off. These fish are peaceful and can be kept in community aquariums, however, it should be kept with small and peaceful tankmates

Diet & nutrition

This species is carnivorous. In the wild it feeds on insects, crustaceans and worms. In captivity it should be fed with live or frozen foods, however, it can also be fed with dried foods.

Origination

This species is endemic to the Amazon River Basin and Venezuela.
