About Feeder White Clouds

General information

These fish are a silverfish green with bright red caudal and dorsal fin, however, there are many different varieties so colors may differ from the one described above. To keep this species in captivity, water pH should be between 6.0 and 8.0 and water temperature should range from 61ºF to 72ºF. These fish prefer tanks with dense vegetation, plenty of open areas for swimming and a sandy substrate. It is a peaceful species and can be kept in a community aquarium but shouldn’t be kept with bigger fish that may eat them. These fish should be kept in groups of 3 or more.

Diet & nutrition

This species is omnivorous. In the wild it feeds on small insects and crustaceans. In an aquarium, it can be fed with dried, live and frozen foods like bloodworm or Daphnias.

Determining sex

Mature females are rounder and larger while males are more colorful.

Breeding & spawning

This species is an egg scatterer that exhibits no parental care. The adults should be separated from the eggs since they may eat them. The eggs hatch in 48 to 60 hours.

Origination

This species originates in China and Vietnam. Some sources say it is extinct in the wild, however, IUCN says it is extinct in Hong Kong but that data is deficient to make an overall analyses of this species status in the wild.
