These fish are silver with black dots and stripes and can reach 2 inches. The False Julii catfish is not the same as the Corydoras julii, the former one has thicker stripes and dots while the latter one has thinner stripes and dots. To keep this species in captivity, water pH should be between 5.9 and 7.0 and water temperature should range from 72ºF to 79ºF. The tank should have dense vegetation, plenty of hiding places and a sandy substrate. This species is peaceful and can be kept in a community tank with other peaceful tankmates. These fish should be kept in a group of 6 or more in an at least 15 gallon tank.

This species is omnivorous. In captivity, it can be fed with dried, live or frozen foods.

Determining sex

Mature females are larger and rounder than males.
