Chameleon Astreopora

General information

In general, Astrepora corals have colonies that are rounded or dome-shaped. Their corallites are distinct, separated and uneven while their exoskeleton are porous.

For the Chameleon Astreopora, they are predominatly colored dark green with light green circles at the tips. This are the water parameters for cultivating Chameleon Astreopora:

• Calcium: 400 – 450 ppm
• Alkalinity: 3.2 – 4.5 MEQ/L
• Phosphates: 0
• Magnesium: 1350 – 1500
• Strontium: 10
• Temperature: 72° – 78° F (22° – 26° C)
• Salinity / Specific Gravity: 1.024 – 1.025

The main noursihment of Chameleon Astreopora comes from the photosynthetic activity of the symbiotic zooxanthellae living within their tissues. However, we still recommend the supplemental feeding of mysis, brine shrimp and other micro foods.

A mature tank is highly recommended in propagating Chameleon Astreopora. They should be set in the middle or bottom portion of the tank.

The Chameleon Astreopora requires moderate water flow and low lighting. This is the reason why you should set them at the middle or bottom of the tank.

Chameleon Astreopora are found in the waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean.

The Chameleon Astreopora is susceptible to polychaete worm infestation. The worms will penetrate to its porous exoskeleton thereby weakening its overall calcareous structure.

Chameleon Astreopora are purely marine. Therefore, salinity must be maintained thoroughly at 1.023 to 1.025 specific gravity.
