To keep these fish, water temperature should range from 36ºF to 90ºF and water pH should be between 6.8 and 7.2. With Koi it is very important to have a good filtration system and good water quality, ammonia levels should be zero or negligible and nitrate levels should be zero or negligible. The minimum pond size recommended is 1000 gallons with a 3 inches depth, the rule many aquarists use to determine good pond size is to add 10 gallons of water for every inch of fish. The pond should have gravel substrate, rocks and hardy plants.
